Arkansas Wheat Promotion Board distributes almost $84,000 for projects and research

The Arkansas Wheat Promotion Board has distributed $83,533 in funding for research and promotion projects. The selected projects will support the growth and market development of Arkansas’ wheat industry.

“These investments reflect our commitment to delivering real value to Arkansas wheat growers,” said Tim Smith, Wheat Promotion Board chairman. “Every project we fund, whether it advances research, enhances markets, or expands consumer understanding, helps build a stronger, more resilient wheat industry.”

The Board received 14 proposals requesting $222,409 in funding. Of those, two promotion projects totaling $5,000 and five research projects totaling $78,533 were approved for fiscal year 2027.

Arkansas Farm Bureau received $2,500 for its Elementary Agriculture Education Professional Development Workshop. It also received $2,500 for tis Wheat Ag Reader for Youth program.

The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture received $17679 for its Diversifying Arkansas Wheat Application: Chemical and Water-Free Electrostatic Fractionation for High-Functionality Wheat Protein research. It also received $20,000 for research into wheat tolerance and weed control with certain herbicides.

The university received a total of about $41,000 for other research projects including pest management, relay cropping and wheat research verification programs.
