Former Hoxie Mayor Lanny Tinker has died. Tinker, 76, served two terms as Hoxie’s mayor. During his tenure, he worked to improve the city’s infrastructure such as roads and water systems. He also worked to grow its jobs base.

A funeral was held Tuesday (June 30) followed by his burial in Lawrence Memorial Park.

A standout high school basketball, Tinker held the Hoxie High School record for points scored for many years. He studied horticulture at Arkansas State University and after he graduated he worked at the school for 33 years and eventually became the assistant director of facilities management.

During the A-State centennial celebration in 2009, he was named one of the university’s top 100 “Distinguished Staff.”

Tinker developed several businesses in Lawrence County during his career. He owned Tinker’s Nursery and Greenhouses, Hometown Video and Pizza, and Hometown Behavioral Health.

He served on the Hoxie Public School Board, was a member of the Hoxie Jaycees, coached pee-wee basketball, held securities and insurance licenses, became a Certified Toastmaster, and served as District Lay Speaker.

He is survived by his wife, Lida Tinker, and his children and grandchildren.
