Jean Elizabeth Brooks

Jean Elizabeth Brooks, age 82, peacefully departed this life on January 15, 2026, at her home in Booneville, Arkansas. Born on April 16, 1943, in Waldron, Arkansas, she was the cherished daughter of Charles and Elva (Doyel) Van De Wiele.

Jean married her husband, Eddie Brooks, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. After pursuing a college education, she dedicated her career to nursing, serving as a registered nurse at Saint Edward’s and Baptist Hospital, where she made a lasting impact on the Fort Smith community.

In her free time, Jean enjoyed visiting the casino, playing games with family and friends, coloring, and participating in BINGO. A devout woman of the Baptist faith, she will be fondly remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and compassionate nurse.

Jean is survived by her son, Doug Brooks; five grandchildren—Tyler, Joseph, Alex, Peyton, and Rily; four great-grandchildren—Maddie, Maddox, Lane, and Elena; and four siblings—Judy, Earl, Charles, and Joyce.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Elva Van De Wiele; her husband, Eddie Brooks; her beloved daughter, April Brooks; and her brother, Curtis.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith. Pastor Todd Van De Wiele will officiate, with pallbearers including Tyler Brooks, Alex Brooks, Peyton Brooks, and family members. Arrangements are entrusted to Lewis Funeral Chapel.
