The 2022 Arkansas Democratic gubernatorial nominee, Dr. Chris Jones, officially kicked off Thursday (Oct. 9) his bid for the 2nd District Congressional seat. If Jones wins the Democratic nomination, he would likely challenge incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. French Hill, who faces a primary challenge.
“I am proud to announce that I am running for Congress to represent you in the 2nd District,” Jones said in a prepared statement. “Arkansans are stressed and exhausted because for too long, politicians have played ‘photo op bingo’ with our communities, dumped today’s problems on our future, and left working families trying to make a dollar out of 15 cents. That ends today.”
Jones’ website touts his positions on jobs and the economy, families and health, schools and innovation, and democracy.
“I’m a builder, a fighter, and a visionary — and I believe in the power of Arkansans to rise together,” he said. “No one left out. No one left behind. This is our campaign. Our future. And together, we will make history.”
Jones launched his 2026 Congressional campaign at the historic Dreamland Ballroom on Ninth Street in Little Rock. He is planning eight town halls over the next two weeks in various parts of the district. The 2nd Congressional District includes Cleburne, Conway, Faulkner, Perry, Saline, Van Buren, White, and a large portion of Pulaski County.
Focusing on Hill’s record, Jones complained the current congressman had voted to cut Medicaid and increase bank fees.
“We want to send representation to Washington that actually represents us,” Jones said.
Jones lost the 2022 race to Gov. Sarah Sanders by a 63%-35% margin. Jones faces Zach Huffman in the Democratic primary for Congress, while Hill faces announced GOP challenger Chase McDowell.
Filing for political office begins Nov. 3 and ends Nov. 11. Primary elections will be held March 3, 2026, and runoff elections will be held March 31. The general election will be Nov. 3, 2026.
