James Edwin Faust, 68, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away August 19, 2025 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born on February 17, 1957 in Detroit, MI to Chuck and Helen (Wright) Faust.

James Faust, a devoted animal lover and passionate traveler, passed away peacefully. His boundless compassion, adventurous spirit, and unwavering kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew him—and many who never did.

Throughout his life, James was a fierce advocate for animals. Whether it was rescuing strays from city streets, nursing injured wildlife back to health, or supporting shelters and sanctuaries, James dedicated countless hours to giving animals a second chance. His home was always open to those in need—furred, feathered, or otherwise—and he took joy in each life he helped save.

James was also a world explorer at heart. His travels took him across the vast landscapes of North and South America—from the peaks of the Andes to the forests of the Pacific Northwest, from vibrant urban centers to quiet villages off the beaten path. He immersed himself in the cultures, cuisines, and natural wonders of every place he visited, always returning with a story, a photo, or a new friend.

He lived his life with intention, curiosity, and empathy—qualities that inspired those around him to see the world with more compassion and wonder.

James is survived by several cousins and close friends, and by the many animals whose lives he touched. His memory will live on in every life he saved and every soul he inspired.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Fort Smith Animal Haven in James’s honor.
