ASU-Newport, Lyon College enter into articulation agreement for nursing students

Arkansas State University-Newport (ASUN) and Lyon College have signed an articulation agreement to facilitate a pathway for students pursuing a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN).

Under the agreement, students will begin their academic journey in the traditional pre-nursing pathway at Lyon College, transition to ASUN to complete the RN program, and then return to Lyon College to finish a bachelor’s degree.

Dr. Johnny Moore, chancellor of Arkansas State University-Newport, said that this articulation agreement “embodies our dedication to fostering educational excellence and collaboration. By partnering with Lyon College, we are creating a robust pathway that not only meets the needs of our students but also addresses the critical demand for skilled nurses in our healthcare system.”

“This agreement represents a step forward in our commitment to providing accessible and high-quality nursing education,” said Dr. Melissa Taverner, president of Lyon College. “By partnering with ASUN, we can offer our students a clear and efficient pathway to achieving their professional goals in nursing.”

This pathway is designed to equip our students with the comprehensive skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in a dynamic healthcare environment, ensuring they are well-prepared to deliver exceptional patient care,” said Dr. Stacie Hay, dean for Nursing and Health Professions at Arkansas State University – Newport.

“The pre-nursing pathway is designed to offer flexibility and support for our students. This structure not only enriches their educational journey but also prepares them to meet the diverse challenges of the healthcare industry,” said Dr. Becky Le, director of nursing education at Lyon College. “Pre-nursing students will remain on the Lyon College campus the entire four years and have full access to the many unique resources provided to our students.”
