Icy conditions kept an estimated 300 western Arkansas residents from attending the 2009 Western Arkansas Legislative Gala.

“The show will go on, regardless of the weather and its potential impact on how many folks will be able to make the trip,” Sandy Sanders, interim president of the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce, said Monday.

The two buses chartered to ferry people to Little Rock did not make the trip. The gala was held at Next Level Events (the old Train Station near the Capitol Building) in Little Rock.

Even without the attendance of those from western Arkansas, the gala drew a respectable crowd. Numerous legislators from around the state did attend the event, including House Speaker Robbie Wills.

Ricky Cross, Fort Smith area manager for AT&T, and Dr. Jerry Stewart.
