Glasgow's Restaurant at 411 S.E. Walton Blvd. in Bentonville was demolished on Thursday (Aug. 31). Connie and J.D. Glasgow opened the restaurant in 1964.

Walmart Inc. has demolished two vacant buildings it owns in Bentonville at the southeast corner of the busy J Street/Walton Boulevard intersection.

The buildings knocked down were Walmart’s former grocery pickup location at 3701 S.E. Dodson Road and a former bank branch at 1100 S.E. Walton Blvd. SWX Construction, a division of Steelworx Industrial Group of Fayetteville, and Crossland Construction led the work.

Walmart opened the 15,129-square-foot grocery pickup concept store, the retailer’s first, in 2014. It closed this past February. The retailer paid $3.7 million for the 3,818-square-foot bank branch in 2015. Previous tenants were Parkway Bank and Chambers Bank. It’s been empty since December 2016.

The demolition site is approximately four acres. Walmart spokesman Brian Little said there is no imminent plan for redevelopment.

GLASGOW’S
About a half-mile away near Rainbow Curve at 411 S.E. Walton Blvd., the site of one of Bentonville’s oldest restaurants also came down this week.

Glasgow’s closed earlier this year, and the 2,138-square-foot building situated between the Doubletree Guest Suites and the Best Western Castlerock Inn & Suites was demolished Thursday (Aug. 31).

With its native stone exterior and unpaved parking lot, Glasgow’s was destination dining for travelers on two-lane U.S. Highway 71 (Walton Boulevard) for many years.

Connie and J.D. Glasgow opened the restaurant in 1964. The menu featured numerous Tex-Mex and American entrees.

J.D. Glasgow died in 1998, and Connie Glasgow died in 2013. Their daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Chris McCoy, were the primary business operators after that until they retired earlier this year.

Drew Ritger, chief operating officer and director of franchising for 7 Brew Coffee of Fayetteville, told the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal the company will develop the site into a company-owned 7 Brew location. The company opened its 100th location earlier this year.

Ritger said 7 Brew will lease the land. According to property records, McCoy Investments LLC owns the 0.7-acre site.

The McCoys could not immediately be reached for comment.
