Siloam Springs-based Cobb-Vantress has opened a regional sales and technical office in Bangkok to serve its growing market for its poultry breeding in Asia.

The move — which follows the appointment of Duncan Granshaw as general manager for Asia last year — makes the new office the hub of Cobb’s Asian activities providing a permanent base for some sales and technical personnel and enhancing service to customers, the company disclosed in a press release.

Its geographical coverage will stretch from Australia and New Zealand, to Bangladesh and Nepal, as well as China, South Korea and Japan.

Cobb-Vantress says its success in China is increasing and hinted that there could be a separate office there in the future.

“Given rapid growth and the sheer size of the market in China, what we do with China itself may depend on how our business grows,” said Cobb president Jerry Moye.  "China may end up having its own regional office, much like Cobb’s operation in South America where the Brazil office also serves the continent."

Cobb is also planning to build a great grandparent hatchery and farm in the Asia-Pacific region by the end of 2012 to supply grandparents to customers in the region rather than importing them from the U.S. or Europe.

The new facility will have enough capacity to support demand in the region for at least the next five years.
