Movies in the Park – Akeelah and the Bee

Akeelah and the Bee, rated PG will be shown on the big screen tonight at dark.  Bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the free movie under the stars at Martin Luther King, Jr. park.  In this heart-warming film, precocious eleven-year-old Akeelah from south Los Angeles is found to have an affinity for spelling. Despite her mother's objections, Akeelah enters a contest and eventually find herself at the National Spelling Bee.  A mysterious teacher and a cast of colorful characters from her neighborhood help her along her journey.
