UA hosts rare and valuable Art Directors Club exhibit

FAYETTEVILLE — Founded in 1920, the Art Directors Club is the premier organization for leaders in visual communication, boasting one of the most concentrated groups of creative talent in the world. A not-for-profit membership organization, the ADC’s mission is to connect creative professionals around the globe, while simultaneously provoking and elevating world-changing ideas. The ADC provides a forum for creatives of all levels in advertising, design, interactive media and communications to explore the direction of these rapidly converging industries.

The Art Directors Club International Traveling Exhibition combines the best of the ADC Annual Award winners to showcase top student and professional work across creative disciplines, as it crosses the globe to visit the world’s creative hubs and destinations.

The Fine Arts Gallery at the University of Arkansas has this world-renowned, prestigious awards exhibition on display through Sept. 21. The educational benefits of hosting this exhibition are numerous. UA Associate Professor in Visual Design Thomas Hapgood states: “This is a rare and valuable opportunity to view an exceptionally curated exhibition presenting a comprehensive body of design work.”

The ability to interact with the award-winning work of these designers in the various forms presented provides an amazing experience for the students, faculty and the community-at-large. Through Sept. 28

Amber Perrodin’s current work is an intimate expression of the effort that one must go through in order to heal. Mend is a growing series of lamentations and empowerment. Regardless of the heavy sentiments involved in her compositions, Perrodin is capable of embodying a certain amount of stillness, peace and solitude within her work.

A Mend reception will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 13) at the arts center.

36th Annual Artist Competition
Through Wednesday (Sept. 12)

For CAE’s 36th Annual Artist Competition, the center invited a curator from the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art to jury the exhibition.

Manuela Well-Off-Man earned a doctorate in art history from Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany (1997), a master’s degree in art history from the University of Cologne (1994) and a bachelor’s degree in art history from the University of Heidelberg (1990).

She brings more than eight years of curatorial experience to her position as assistant curator at Crystal Bridges. Most recently the curator of art at the Montana Museum of Art and Culture at the University of Montana in Missoula, she also has served as independent curator at the H. Earl Clack Museum in Havre, Mont., and the Westphalian State Museum of Natural History in Münster, Germany.

Well-Off-Man has organized more than 40 exhibitions, among them Indian Reality Today – Contemporary Indian Art of North America, a traveling exhibition that was viewed by more than 350,000 visitors in her native Germany. She has published five exhibition catalogs on American art, scholarly articles in art journals and numerous catalog and exhibition essays.
