The Christmas Honors program seeks volunteers to help on Sunday (Jan. 8) pick up and help store the 13,000 wreaths now placed at the Fort Smith National Cemetery.

The wreaths were placed Dec. 10 on headstones at the cemetery.

Volunteers are asked to meet either at the Fort Smith National Cemetery or the Fort Smith Convention Center. Teams will be working to pick up and transport wreaths from the cemetery to the convention center where the bows will be removed from the wreaths and stored until next December.

USA Truck stored the boxes between assembly and pickup at no cost and are going to deliver the boxes back to the Fort Smith Convention Center on Jan. 8 for storage. Since the beginning of the program, Baldor Electric has provided the annual storage and transportation of the wreaths and bows to/from their storage facility for the program at no cost (over 1,000 boxes). Many other local sponsors have helped make this program a success.

Donations are still being accepted to help with the costs associated with purchasing new wreaths and bows. Donations can be sent to the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce located at 612 Garrison Ave.  Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901. Please make all checks/payments payable to “Christmas Honors” c/o the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce. Tax ID #: 71-0029620
