Automotive Service Technology Chair Bobby Sewell of Subiaco has been named Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus’ “Teacher of the Year.”

The announcement came during the Ozark Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Teacher Appreciation Breakfast, held Tuesday (Aug. 16) in the First United Methodist Church’s Gardner Family Life Center.

The event recognized the outstanding efforts of educators at the Ozark School District, Arkansas Tech-Ozark and Cass Jobs Corps.

“Mr. Sewell is among the most student-centered, energetic and engaged faculty members that I have met. But most importantly, his students are highly skilled, and he has a reputation in our region for producing the best. He is most deserving of this award,” said ATU-Ozark Chancellor Jo Alice Blondin.

Sewell was hired as the department chair in 2006. He previously worked as an automotive mechanic in Paris for 17 years, and opened a business in Subiaco that remains open. Sewell holds an associate degree and advanced automotive degree from Arkansas Valley Vocational Technical School, which eventually became Arkansas Tech-Ozark.

“This is such a big honor,” Sewell said. “It makes me feel real good to know this was voted on by my peers, too. I’m honored they recognized and appreciate my dedication.”
