Peggy Lewis, a member of the Summit Medical Center hospital auxiliary group for 33 years, is the 2011 Summit Medical Center Volunteer of the Year.

According to a release from the hospital, Lewis has been “committed to the hospital with a true volunteer spirit. From her excellent customer service skills to her help on special projects and fund raising efforts for the Summit Auxiliary Scholarship fund, Lewis has set the bar for volunteerism.”

During a banquet held in June, Lewis was surprised with the award of Volunteer of the Year and given a crown and sash to honor her dedication to the hospital.

“Peggy doesn’t make a fuss about anything and quietly goes about helping. She was in charge of the Doctor’s Day Brunch and the Saturday morning “Adopt-A-Spot” clean up project at the hospital. She is a good all around person and advocate for our organization and hospital,” said Norma Shults, Summit Medical Center volunteer coordinator.

Summit Medical Center is a fully accredited, 103-bed acute care hospital operating in Van Buren and owned by Naples, Fla.-based Health Management Associations.
