Adam & Eats: Steffey’s Pizza

I’ve been craving pizza lately. In particular, I’ve been wanting pizza that doesn’t suck and boy, do I have just the place. In order to eat there though, we have to visit the cow. Not in English silly; in Spanish. Lavaca, in Spanish, means the cow. What a weird thing to name a town.
Located on Main Street in historic Lavaca is the home of Steffey’s Pizza. For more than 25 years, Steffey’s has been serving up piping hot pizza pie to the people who choose to call this part of the world their home. Having survived more than a quarter of a century tells you something about the food served there.
It rocks.
In addition to tasty treats, the service is exceedingly friendly and the atmosphere is charming. This is simple dining at its finest. There are no complex seating arrangements at Steffey’s. Humble tables, chairs, and booths are scattered about the joint and the walls are decorated tastefully with the restaurant’s history. I bet most of you long for the days when a large pizza cost a dollar and the original menu framed on the wall reminds us of those days.
Since Steffey’s is a pizza place, I’m sure you’ve figured out what the focus of the menu is. That’s right, it’s pizza. Now, I’ve heard people complain about the prices there, but friends, it is worth every penny. Their homemade crust is buttery and fluffy and will remind you of a dinner roll. There are no uneaten crusts at Steffey’s.
It doesn’t hurt, either, that this wonderfully yummy crust is brushed with just the right amount of sauce and stacked high with your favorite toppings. If I may make a suggestion, do try the chicken bacon ranch pizza. It consists of their delicious crust covered with their homemade ranch, grilled chicken strips, crunchy bacon, and both provolone and cheddar cheese. It is dyn-o-mite. For a little added something or another, I add jalapenos to it. It is like adding the cherry on top of perfection.
Now don’t start thinking that Steffey’s only slings pies. Oh, no. They offer a wide selection of other delicious favorites such as nachos, sandwiches, and pizza subs.
Another recommendation is the Razorback pizza sub.
“What’s a pizza sub?” you may be asking. Well, a pizza sub is when they take their awesome crust, brush it with sauce, fill it with toppings, wrap them up in the dough, brush it with garlic butter, and bake it to crispy perfection. The Razorback pizza sub is chock full of pepperoni, Canadian bacon, sausage, Italian sausage, and provolone. Every bite is a glimpse of meaty Heaven. Also, their sweet tea is frighteningly good.
If you’ve never tried Steffey’s, I highly recommend it. It is worth the drive. And on days as beautiful as these past few, a pleasant drive is in order, I think.
Until next week, good eating to you and yours.
