COVID-19 deaths, hospitalizations rise, with known cases approaching 75,000

Deaths, hospitalizations, and ventilator use rose by double-digit numbers, according to data posted Monday (Sept. 21) by the Arkansas Department of Health. Total deaths were 1,197 as of Monday, with active cases also rising.

The ADH on Monday also updated its tally of active and cumulative cases in schools and universities. Following is part of the data from the Sept. 21 report.

The top five school districts in terms of known cumulative cases were Fort Smith (151), Springdale (135), Little Rock (92), Rogers (65), and Batesville (58).

• 74,286 known cumulative cases, with 544 new community cases and 52 new cases in correctional facilities
• 2,078 “probable” cases, up from 2,033 on Sunday
• There are 6,299 active cases, up from 6,256 on Sunday
• There were 7,657 test results provided in the previous 24 hours.
• There were 253 antigen tests in the previous 24 hours with 20 positive results.

The top five counties with new known cases reported Monday were: Pulaski (56), Benton (39), Craighead (39), Jefferson (34), and Washington (29). The counties accounted for 36.2% of the 544 new community cases.

As of Monday at 2:30 p.m., there were 6,826,549 U.S. cases and 199,660 deaths. Globally, there were 31,167,374 cases and 962,046 deaths.
