Fort Smith United Way kicks off campaign
The United Way of Fort Smith has announced the results of the Pacesetter Segment of the 2010 Campaign. According to the United Way, 22 organizations participated in this first phase with $968,024 pledged. That represents an increase of 3% over 2009 for these same organizations with several companies setting records in their giving.
First National Bank of Fort Smith was recognized at the Kick Off Luncheon held on September 9, 2010, as Pacesetter of the Year. Dr Lee Johnson, a Fort Smith Boys and Girls Club scholarship recipient, was the featured speaker and told the over 200 kick-off attendees how he was fortunate to LIVE UNITED through his career and family.
2010 Campaign Chairman, Jim Walcott, said his goal is to at least outdo last year in uncertain economic times.
“Many companies throughout Fort Smith and the region have been focused on doing what was best for their business. Obviously that’s crucial to our region; however, these Pacesetters have shown that investing in the community is also important and really stepped up for the United Way,” Walcott said.
The 33 United Way agencies have demonstrated needs for $2.6 million. Last year’s campaign raised $2.2 million.
