Conway-based Nabholz Corp. is building the nation’s first large scale cross-laminated timber (CLT) residence hall at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. The national commercial contracting firm is such a big believer in the product, it’s now planning to put it to use at its regional office in Rogers.

Nabholz has submitted a large-scale development plan to the city for a 7,500-square-foot addition at its Central Region headquarters at 3301 N. Second St.

“This [expansion] will bring all our people who are scattered around in different buildings into a single building,” said Jason Vines, the company’s vice president of preconstruction. “And it’ll give us room for future growth.”

Modus Studio of Fayetteville is the architect and RIN Interiors of Rogers is handling the interior design. Vines said the building expansion will be an open office concept, which will lend well to using CLT.

“We really liked the idea of the exposed wood and the warmth you get from [CLT],” he said. “We’re big believers in CLT, and we want to continue to promote it.”

The expansion proposal is still awaiting city approval. Vines said he is hopeful work can begin by late April. When complete in early 2020, he said the existing 12,700-square-foot office building will be renovated.

Nabholz has 1,158 corporate employees, with 344 working in the Central Region, a territory encompassing Northwest Arkansas and southwest Missouri. The number of employees in the Rogers office after the expansion will be 55.

Nabholz established a regional office in Rogers in 1990, which is now one of the company’s largest operations in terms of employees and annual revenue.
