Gemma Kubat, vice president of global business services services at Walmart, will join Target on Aug. 6 as senior vice president of supply chain engineering and activation.

Kubat previously worked at Asda. Target said she will lead the design, activation and ongoing management of assets that support its global supply chain and logistics network.

Kubat will report to Arthur Valdez, Jr., executive vice president and chief supply chain officer. Valdez said Kubat’s previous retail experience includes human resources, finance, innovation, strategy and logistics.

“We’re bringing together stores, digital channels, technology and supply chain to make shopping at Target easier and more convenient,” said Valdez.

The retailer has said the strategy is to leverage its store network with changing supply chain and logistics capabilities. That work includes expanding two-day shipping nationwide, same-day delivery in 150 markets with its Shipt subsidiary as well as rolling out its own grocery pickup service dubbed Drive Up.
