The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center, based at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, announced two events planned for early December.

A webcast on Navy Small Business Innovation Research grants will be shown from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Dec. 5 in the Reynolds Business Center Room 251 on the UA Little Rock campus, and the ASBTDC will also offer an opportunity for a private meeting with a Navy representative that afternoon, according to the center.

The webcast viewing is intended to help science- and tech-driven entrepreneurs learn about SBIR funding available through the U.S. Navy and other divisions of the U.S. Department of Defense and will review Navy Sea System Commands’ SBIR and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program topics, according to the center.

The event is free and open to the public, but the ASBTDC said space is limited and pre-registration is required online.

More information is available by contacting Shannon Roberts at 501-683-7700 or by email.

The ASBTDC will also host a seminar “Starting a Business in the New Year,” from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 7 in the Reynolds Business Center.

The event is intended for anyone interested in starting a business and will cover first steps, legal business structures, regulations, licensing, key issues that affect business success and common pitfalls that entrepreneurs face, according to the ASBTDC.

The cost is $30. Those interested in attending may register online. Military veterans and UA Little Rock employees and students may attend for free.

More information is available by contacting Pamela Reed at 501-683-7700 or by email.

The ASBTDC is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration, through a partnership with the UA Little Rock College of Business and other institutions of higher education. The center assists companies at every stage of business development and growth, according to the organization.
