Dave Manning, president of TCW Inc. in Nashville, Tenn., was elected as the 73rd chairman of the American Trucking Associations Board of Directors.

“It is a tremendous honor to be elected by my fellow ATA members as their chairman for the coming year,” Manning said. “I look forward to continuing the work of immediate past Chairman Kevin Burch, and all my predecessors as we work to build a bright future for our industry.”

Manning was elected to the position on Tuesday (Oct. 24) at the ATA’s annual Management Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Fla.

“Dave has a strong and steady voice for our industry,” said Chris Spear, president and CEO for the ATA. “He will be an outstanding representative for our industry and I congratulate him on this honor.”

Manning replaces Burch, who is president of Jet Express Inc., as chairman. “Being ATA chairman was the honor of a lifetime,” Burch said. “I’m sure Dave will do an incredible job as chairman, and I wish him the best for a great year to come.”

Manning has been an executive with carrier TCW since 1985 and has helped the company expand from one terminal to a “diversified transportation firm with more than 600 employees across the southeastern United States,” according to a news release. Manning has been active with the ATA for years and has been chair of ATA’s Intermodal Carrier Conference and worked with the Tennessee Trucking Association as chairman of the state association’s political action committee.

He’s also past chairman of the Intermodal Association of North America and a board member of the Intermodal Interchange Executive Committee and chairman of the North American Chassis Pool Cooperative.

Also, the ATA board elected Barry Pottle, CEO of Pottle’s Transportation, as ATA first vice chairman; Randy Guillot, president of Triple G Express Inc., as ATA second vice chairman; and Sherri Garner Brumbaugh, president and CEO of Garner Transportation, and Harold Summerford Jr., CEO of J&M Tank Lines Inc., both as ATA vice chairmen.
