Walmart Foundation commits $565,000 toward Mexico City relief efforts
In response to the recent 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Mexico, the Walmart Foundation has committed $565,000 (10 million pesos) to help organizations providing immediate recovery and relief. The commitment builds upon to the $2.2 million (40 million pesos) commitment of cash and 300 tons of product donations made by Walmart de México y Centroamérica to assist those in need.
“Our thoughts are with the people of Mexico City in the aftermath of this devastating earthquake,” said Kathleen McLaughlin, president of the Walmart Foundation. “We hope our support will help further the immediate response and relief efforts, and stand as a gesture of solidarity with our fellow associates, customers and friends in Mexico as they continue to recover.”
In addition to the commitment by the Walmart Foundation, Walmart Mexico is working closely with organizations immediately responding, while coordinating efforts with elected officials and governmental entities to help meet the needs of those affected.
Walmart Mexico is supporting the organizations in addressing immediate needs in the community and will continue to monitor in the coming days to provide additional assistance.
