Kaylyn Jade Calhoun of Paris, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2025, near New Blaine, Arkansas. She was born on December 20, 2017, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to John Matt Calhoun and Katherine Jo Neumeier. She was 8 years old.

Kaylyn was a second-grade student at Scranton Elementary School in Scranton, and she will be remembered for the extraordinary light and love she brought into the world.

Often, in times like this, people use phrases such as “she lit up the room” or “she was a light in the dark,” but those words do not fully capture who Kaylyn was. Kaylyn was not merely a light; she was an entire sun. She brightened every room she entered and radiated a warmth that seemed to come straight from her soul and into the hearts of those around her. Whatever one was feeling, Kaylyn had a way of making it just a little better simply by her presence.

Those who knew her well knew Kaylyn was a true firecracker. She often described herself by saying, “I look like my momma, but I have my daddy’s attitude.” In truth, she had an attitude all her own—spirited, unique, and unforgettable. Her sass was remarkable, and she was never afraid to show it.

Kaylyn loved deeply and fiercely. She loved her parents and her sister and brother more than anything. She was her mother’s little princess and her father’s best hunting buddy. She was Taylor’s biggest fan and Hudson’s fiercest protector. Kaylyn leaves behind grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and more friends than she could count, all of whom she loved wholeheartedly and without reservation.

She is welcomed into heaven by her big brother, Hunter Periman, her step-grandfather, Donald Roach, and her big cousin, Logan Turner.

Though her time on this earth was brief, Kaylyn experienced enough love to last ten lifetimes. Those fortunate enough to have known her will remember her as intelligent and humorous, caring and compassionate. She lived her life rooted in love and peace—and without a doubt, that is where she now remains, embraced by love and peace, free from fear and pain.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 3rd at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Paris, with Bro. Kenny Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at McKendree Cemetery, located north of Subiaco, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Paris.

She is survived by her mother, Kathy Neumeier of Paris; her father, John Calhoun of New Blaine; a sister and brother, Taylor Periman and Hudson Calhoun of the home; her maternal grandparents, Debbie Roach of Paris and Leo Neumeier, Jr. and wife Mari of Center Ridge, Arkansas; her paternal grandparents, Crystal Thomas and husband Bob of Hartman and Johnny Calhoun and wife Kim of Southside, Alabama; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Pallbearers are Layne Burges, Chris Stephens, Caden Turner, and Joe Cauldwell.

Honorary pallbearers are Travis Tebben, Jaylin Wright, Logan Turner, Blake Calhoun, and Kolton Hughes.
