Virginia May (Lister) Hulsey
Virginia May (Lister) Hulsey, 83, of Fort Smith, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on December 24 at Covington Court in Fort Smith.
Virginia was born on September 13, 1942 in Moline, Kansas to Loren and Getrude Lister. She worked as a telephone operator in the late 1950s. She met her husband, James, while he was teaching in Kansas, and they married in 1962. In the early 70s after having three of their four children, they moved from Kansas to Fort Smith where she resided until her passing.
A member of Temple Baptist Church, she served in the church’s choir and kitchen ministries. She was an avid crafter and seamstress who loved creating things as part of her ministry. She sewed outfits for her children, wedding dresses, and cheerleader outfits, as well as blankets and wheelchair pouches for those in nursing homes and care facilities. She also enjoyed plastic canvas, crafting items like coasters, tissue boxes, and door hangers to give to others.
She is survived by her husband, James; two sons: Dennis (and wife, Patrice), and Carl; three siblings: Roy Lister, Alma Daymude, and Wilma Lister; and four grandchildren: Chris Hulsey, Ashley Hulsey, Emily Welsch, and Andrew Welsch.
Virginia was welcomed into heaven by her parents, son Brian Hulsey, daughter Angela Welsch, and siblings Norman and Harold Lister.
Visitation will be held at Lewis Funeral Chapel on Monday, December 29 from 5-7 p.m. The service will be held at Temple Baptist Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas on Tuesday, December 30 at 11 a.m., with a family graveside service in Tamaha, Oklahoma at 2 p.m..
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in her honor.
