Alejandro Rivas Ortiz, 46, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away at home on November 15, 2025.

He was born on August 11, 1979, in Vicente Guerrero, Durango, Mexico, to Juan Rivas and the late Sirah Ortiz. Alejandro grew up surrounded by a large family and carried those deep family values throughout his life.

On December 24, 2002, Alejandro married the love of his life, Barbara Castanon, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and devotion. He worked hard to provide for his family and had been employed in various labor roles over the years, earning the respect of those he worked alongside.

Alejandro enjoyed the simple joys of life—reading, drinking beer, listening to music, and spending time outdoors. He loved nature and found peace in being outside. He will be remembered for his happy spirit, his enthusiasm, and the way he was always smiling. Alejandro’s bravery, warmth, and upbeat personality touched everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his father, Juan Rivas; his wife, Barbara Castanon; and his daughter, Alexia Rivas Castanon. He is also survived by his siblings: Ismael Rivas, Patricia Rivas, Maricela Rivas, Fernando Rivas, Juan Rivas, and Karina Rivas; as well as cousins Oscar Ramirez, Angel Ramirez, and Fabian Ramirez; and many extended family members and friends.

Alejandro was preceded in death by his mother, Sirah Ortiz, and his sibling Patricia Rivas.

A funeral service will be held on November 19, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fort Smith.

Alejandro will be remembered as a brave, happy, and enthusiastic person who brightened every room with his smile.
