Nella Jean (Jean) Hendricks of Barling, AR entered into sleep with Jesus on September 8, 2025. She was born November 1, 1930 in Greenwood, AR.
She was a dedicated servant leader in various capacities. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Ladies Auxiliary, Saint Edward (Mercy) Ladies Auxiliary, Girl Scout leader, Immaculate Conception funeral choir member, Sunshine Shop volunteer, past president of Saint Edward (Mercy) Auxiliary, PTA president and 4-H Club volunteer. She was a faithful parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, Fort Smith, AR.
Jean’s husband, James M. (Buddy) Hendricks preceded her in death in 2017. They celebrated 64 years of marriage on June 20, 2017. Jean and Buddy had many hobbies together and shared a mutual passion for riding Cutting horses. And they enjoyed watching wildlife around their 5-acre home place.
They were also involved in various 4-H projects for many years with their children. They enjoyed and loved their time spent attending school, sports and agricultural events with their grandchildren.
Jean was also preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Gladys Williamson of Greenwood, brother Harold R. (Pete) Williamson of Philadelphia, MS, her sister, Ramona McCutchen of Fort Smith, and her son, James E. (Butch) Hendricks of Fort Smith. She is survived by daughter-in-law, Patty Hendricks of Little Rock, two daughters, Andrea Butler (Jimmie) of Republic, MO, Laura Elwood (Joe) of Lavaca and one son, Tim Hendricks (Stephanie) of Bella Vista. She has nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren, whom she dearly loved. And many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, September 16 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 22 N. 13th, Fort Smith, AR. There will be a praying of the rosary and visitation from 10am-10:45am and the funeral will begin at 11am. There will be a private burial with the family immediately after the funeral at Calvary Cemetery, Fort Smith.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Ashton Place and Mercy Hospice.
