Matthew Ralph Leavell, after a courageous seven year battle with cancer, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on July 18, 2025.

Matthew was born on August 21, 1971 in Charleston, WV, the beloved and firstborn son of Ralph and Rosemary Leavell. He grew up with a deep love for family and an easy smile that could light up any room.

Matthew shared his life with his best friend and travel partner, Tamara, with whom he built a lifetime of memories.

He was a supportive and devoted big brother to Adam, Justin, Robin, and Jenn. Uncle to Lyndley, Caleb, Nicholas, and Caden.

Of all the titles he held, his most cherished and proud was that of father and “Gampa.” He leaves behind his children Lacey and Dominic Roman, Mercedes and Jordan Anderson.

He was THE BEST Gampa to Ezra, Ellie, Mattie, and Rhea. They were his greatest joy. He made sure they knew how much he loved them, cherishing every hug and time spent with them.

Matthew was a prominent figure in the bowling community, admired for his talent and sportsmanship. With eight perfect 300 games to his name, he is set to be inducted into the Arkansas State Bowling Hall of Fame in October 2025—a testament to his dedication and passion.

A lifelong Buffalo Bills fan, Matthew’s enthusiasm for his team was unmatched. No matter the season, you could count on him decked out in Bills gear, excitedly awaiting each game and celebrating every victory.

Matthew had a gift for connection—he never met a stranger and could make a friend anywhere he went. His kindness, humor, and unwavering spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Celebration of Life will be 2:00 PM Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Matthew to the Boys and Girls Club of Van Buren or to a charity close to your heart.
