The “delivery station” permitted at 4300 Geren Road in Fort Smith will be an Amazon facility, according to property records. The building permit for the facility was issued by the City of Fort Smith in mid-May.

The 17.84-acre property was sold June 13 to Amazon.com Services LLC for $1.338 million. Allie Payne, an Amazon spokesperson, said the facility is a delivery station, which is different from a distribution center.

Payne did not respond to questions about how many would be employed at the station, when it might be operational, and the total estimated cost.

“We can confirm that Amazon has purchased property at 4300 Geren Road in Fort Smith to construct a distribution center,” said Tim Allen, president and CEO of the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce. “While the initiative remains in its early stages, we are excited about what’s ahead and look forward to Amazon sharing additional details as plans progress. This marks another exciting investment in the greater Fort Smith Region and continues the trend of major companies recognizing the area’s strong workforce, strategic location, and valuable resources.”

The city issued a $14.917 million building permit in May to Brighton, Mich.-based BC Construction Group, which specializes in building large facilities for warehouse use, distribution centers, advanced manufacturing, and charter schools. BC clients include FedEx, Hyundai, American Tire, the U.S. government, and Loomis.

The property is south of Rheem’s Fort Smith facility on Arkansas Highway 45 and north of the Silgan manufacturing plant. The building will be around 72,000 square feet. The permit value is for construction only and does not include the costs for furniture, fixtures and equipment.
