Allen Marion Powell, age 90, of Rockwall, Texas, passed away peacefully at his residence on July 17, 2025, with his loving family by his side until the very end. His life was a reflection of integrity, humility, and kindness – qualities that defined him from his early days in rural Arkansas through his decades of hard work and family devotion.

Allen was born on October 29, 1934, in Dyer, Arkansas, to Millard Powell and Dolly (Whitlock) Powell. He grew up in Dyer on the family farm, one of ten children, where he quickly learned the values of discipline, gratitude, and responsibility. Life on the farm meant early mornings, long days, and teamwork – a way of life that shaped his character and instilled in him a strong work ethic.

At 16 years old, Allen made the decision to move to Fort Worth, Texas, alongside his sister Regina. It was there that he began carving out his path as a young man, carrying with him his upbringing as a true farm boy and cowboy at heart. Though he settled into city life, Allen’s love for rural living and the outdoors never left him. He was known throughout his life as a “southern gentleman” – soft-spoken, respectful, and someone who always made time for others. His words were often simple but meaningful. He knew how to say, “thank you,” how to listen, and how to make people feel valued and heard.

Allen was an avid horseman and skilled hunter, and he had a lifelong passion for all sports. Whether it was following his favorite teams or sharing stories of his own sporting experiences, he loved the camaraderie and competition. He was also a true nature enthusiast, never happier than when he was outdoors – whether working the land, tending to animals, or just enjoying the stillness of the countryside.

In 1954, at just 20 years old, Allen started his career in Grand Prairie, Texas, working for Gulf Industries and Aeroaffillities as a precision machinist. His natural talent for machinery, attention to detail, and dedication to excellence quickly set him apart. In 1960, he joined Texas Instruments in Richardson, Texas, one of the world’s leading semiconductor companies. Over the next 30 years, Allen worked his way up, managing the machine shop and later being promoted to manager of the company’s Vocational Tech Program. In this role, he was responsible for recruiting and hiring for Texas Instruments, mentoring countless individuals along the way. He took pride in his work and always led by example.

After retiring in 1990, Allen moved back to Alma, Arkansas, returning to his roots and the very farm where he was raised. For him, there was no place more peaceful than being surrounded by his horses and animals. His daughter Debbie moved to Arkansas to live with him full-time in 2019, which brought him immense happiness. He cherished the time they shared together, working around the farm, swapping stories, and simply enjoying one another’s company. In 2022, due to declining health, Allen and Debbie relocated to Rockwall, Texas, until his passing.

Family was always at the center of Allen’s life. He often said his two children, Debra “Debbie” Adams and Allen Jr. Powell, were his greatest blessings. He loved nothing more than being around his family. Allen’s home was always open, his advice was always thoughtful, and his love for his family was unconditional.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Dolly Powell; his wife, Patricia Powell, who passed away in 2019; two sisters, Yvonia and Violet; six brothers, Larry, Lennox, Rex, A.B., Millard, and Walt (“WR”); his son-in-law James Adams; four nephews, Walt Jr., David Allen, Mark, and Phillip; and his niece, Brenda.

He is survived by his children, daughter, Debra Adams of Rockwall, Texas; his son, Allen Jr. Powell, and wife Moira; his grandchildren, Johnny Adams, Amy (Adams) King, Shane Powell, and Stephanie (Powell) Dawson; and his great-grandchildren, Jax, Keelan, Keegan, Brittney, Breton, Landon, Ashley and Austin. He is also survived by his sister, Regina Hudgins, and her husband David, along with five nephews, Richard, David, Rick, Artie, and Roger – and eleven nieces, Cheryl, Melynda, Teresa, LaDonna Y., Tammie, Marsha, Janny, Debbie, Pam, Barbara, and LaDonna S.

Graveside service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Alma City Cemetery with burial to follow under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma, AR 72921.

Allen was a man people naturally gravitated towards – a person who could make someone’s day better with just a few words of encouragement. He believed in hard work, lending a helping hand, and treating everyone with respect. His family and friends will miss his gentle presence, but they take comfort in knowing he lived a full life, leaving behind lessons of love, patience, and generosity for the generations to come.
