David D. ” Dave” Hughes, born December 26th, 1947, died May 6, 2025. He is survived by his bride of over 43 years, Robin (Johnson) Hughes and a son Michael Joe Hughes of Springdale, along with several nieces and nephews.
Dave was well known in the Ft. Smith area, first as a radio and television personality having worked for KFPW, KTCS, KMAG and Country 106 radio stations from the late 1960’s through the mid 1980’s. He also worked as a reporter and weekend news anchor for KFSM TV in the mid 1970’s.
Following his media career he spent 27 years as the Executive Director for the Greater Fort Smith Association of Home Builders. During that time, he helped develop projects to benefit the organization and inform the community about quality home construction and building professionals. In addition, he worked on housing issues with local, state, and national officials and legislators.
Some of his public events included development of the annual Showcase Home in 1989, which continues today, along with the Parade of Homes tour. Dave continued to refine the annual Home Show, as the premiere venue for local merchants to show their products to the public which has grown even larger in recent years.
Dave retired in 2014 after which he and Robin traveled the country in their motor home, eventually settling in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas before coming back home to Fort Smith.

Memorial visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Edwards Funeral Home, 201 North 12th Street, Fort Smith.
There will be a private memorial graveside service at Rose Lawn Cemetery, cremation arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
