Velma Jean Howard, 83, of Rudy, Arkansas passed away on Wednesday March 13, 2025 in Fort Smith. She was born on February 14, 1942 in Denison, TX to the late Bernard and Katharine (Linde) Mayhew. She was a member of the Cedarville Baptist Church. Velma never met a stranger and loved to share recipes with everyone she met. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gene Howard; three brothers, Robert, Tommy and Ronnie Mayhew; one sister, Mary Kilgore; a grandson, Johnathan Petty.
She is survived by her husband, Troy Howard of Rudy; two daughters, Regina Gregory of Van Buren and Irene Petty and husband Ken of Cedarville; sister, Stella Bennett of TX; three brothers, Roy Mayhew of Van Buren, Frankie Mayhew of Mulberry and Danny Mayhew of Nebraska; five grandchildren, Dustin Petty, Joshua Petty, Kyle Petty, Shea Gregory and Katharine Reed; ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10 A.M. Tuesday March 18, 2025 at Ocker Memorial Chapel with burial to follow at Mt. McCurry cemetery in Rudy under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.
A family visitation will be Monday March 17, 2025 from 5-7 P.M. at Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren, 700 Jefferson St.
