Arthur Ray Anders, age 88, passed away peacefully at his home on March 12, 2025, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Born on November 27, 1936, in Elk City, Oklahoma, he was a beloved son of Burk Anders and Eula Lee (Bishop) Anders. Arthur’s military service began in November 1960 when he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served for two years. His dedication to service continued as he transitioned to the National Guard, taking him to San Diego, California. He concluded his military career with a year in the Army Reserve, retiring as a proud Sergeant of the 4th 47th Brigade.
Arthur married the love of his life, Sybil Janese (Carnett) Anders, and together they shared 48 wonderful years of marriage. He dedicated many years of his working life to Baldor, where he was a loyal and hardworking employee until his retirement.
In his free time, Arthur found joy in tinkering with model cars and spending quality time with his grandchildren, whom he adored. A passionate football fan, he never missed a chance to cheer on his favorite teams, the Chargers and the Dallas Cowboys. His greatest joy, however, came from supporting his grandkids at their sporting events, always their biggest fan. Arthur will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His kind heart, strong work ethic, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sybil Anders of the home; five children: Belinda Maxwell and husband Tony of Kibler, Arkansas; Raymond Anders of Springdale, Arkansas; Jeff Harness and wife Tammy of Santa Rosa, Florida; Carolyn Weaver and husband Darnell of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and Brenda Carr and husband Cary of Van Buren, Arkansas; eight grandchildren; Eli Maxwell, Arthur Anders, Bryttani Papineau, Jennifer Mancuso, Paige Wahlmeier, Hayley Carr, Payton Morris and Shelby Harness; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Sharon Hanaz of Des Moines, Iowa; his brother-in-law and cherished friend, Roy Carnett; honorary daughter, B.J. Anderson; honorary grandchildren, Ashley Alderson and husband Keith of Greenwood, Arkansas; three more honorary grandchildren; and Josiah Cotner and his wife Krissy Cotner of Fort Smith, Arkansas; along with their two honorary grandchildren; and the most special neighbors, Jose’, Lillian, Stevie, Katherine, and Johnathon. His legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
