Crawford, Sebastian counties have big gains in electric and hybrid vehicle use

Electric and hybrid vehicles registered in Crawford and Sebastian counties are growing in number, with electric vehicles up more than 300% in Sebastian County since 2019, according to figures from the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA).

The DFA numbers show 449 electric vehicles registered in Sebastian County at the end of 2024, up 358% from the 98 in 2019. Hybrid vehicles in the county at the end of 2024 totaled 3,264, up 115.9% in the past six years.

Crawford County had 160 electric vehicles at the end of 2024, more than five times the 26 in 2019. Hybrid vehicles registered in the county totaled 1,305 in 2024, up 82% compared with 717 at the end of 2019.

Statewide, electric vehicle registrations are up 421% since 2019, and hybrid numbers are up 131.3%.

“The state has 9,214 fully electric vehicles registered to begin the year along with 49,173 hybrids (2,654 are plug-in hybrids while 46,519 are regular hybrids). We should surpass 60,000 overall registrations (fully electric and hybrid) by March,” according to DFA spokesman Scott Hardin.

Counties with the most registered electric vehicles are Pulaski, Benton and Washington, with a combined 28,659, or 58% of all electric vehicles in the state, according to the DFA.
