Mary Ann Johnson Gibbs, 75, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, entered her heavenly home on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Covington Court. Born on February 12, 1949, in Lavaca, Arkansas, Mary was the cherished daughter of Edna (Weaver) Johnson and Thomas Johnson.

On July 3, 1975, Mary married the love of her life, Jeremiah Gibbs. This year would have marked their fiftieth wedding anniversary, a testament to their enduring love and devotion.

Mary was a driven and accomplished woman, earning her business degree from WestArk. She dedicated 34 years to the Arkansas Department of Human Services, retiring in 2014. Known for her radiant personality, Mary loved wearing stylish hats, shopping, reading, and attending community events with Jeremiah. A devout woman of Baptist faith, Mary’s life was a reflection of her unwavering trust in God.
She will be remembered as a warm, happy-go-lucky soul who served as a mother figure to many, offering love, guidance, and encouragement.

Mary is survived by her devoted husband, Jeremiah Gibbs; her two beloved fur babies, Charlie and Little Bit; and her dear friend, Susan McNally Killian, who was like a daughter to her. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Johnson of Lavaca, Arkansas; two brothers-in-law, Willie Gibbs of Texas and Joe Gibbs of Mansfield, Arkansas; a niece, Diane Garcia of Texas; two nephews, Nicholas Garcia of Texas and Larry Dale Johnson of Lavaca, Arkansas; as well as many treasured extended family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Edna Johnson; and her brother, James Howard Johnson. 

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 1000 W Main Street in Lavaca, AR 72941. 

The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, also take place at 1000 W Main Street in Lavaca, AR 72941. A Graveside Service will follow at Hickory Ridge Cemetery in Lavaca, Arkansas. Pastor Kyle Horton is to officiate. Services are entrusted to Lewis Funeral Chapel.
