Morawski discusses leaving as Fort Smith School District superintendent
Dr. Terry Morrawski, Fort Smith Public Schools Superintendent, announced Tuesday (Dec. 16) at the school board meeting that he may leave the district at the end of the school year. His wife on Tuesday was named superintendent of the Granbury Independent School District in Texas.
The school board met in executive session at the start of the meeting Tuesday and went back into executive session after the meeting to discuss Morawski’s contract. The school board extended Morawski’s contract in April through June 2025 with no increase to his base salary, which is $253,839.
Morawski was named FSPS superintendent in November 2020, replacing Dr. Doug Brubaker, who resigned in 2020 to take the position of superintendent for the Texarkana, Texas, Independent School District. He took over as superintendent Jan. 4, 2021.
Morawski had served as the district’s deputy superintendent since July 2018. He has worked in public education for more than 20 years. During that time, he has held a variety of roles. At FSPS he worked as deputy superintendent, assistant superintendent and chief operations officer and director.
“School districts in Texas have a 21 day waiting period before a contract can be finalized, but I want to begin the discussion tonight about what the leadership transition could be for the district (FSPS). Fortunately, the district is in an incredibly stable position at the moment,” Morwaski said. “This was Courtney’s dream, and I’m going to support that.”
A native of Mansfield, Texas, Dr. Courtney Morawski has more than 20 years in education.
