Jonesboro receives $137,970 grant from Department of Energy

The city of Jonesboro has received a $137,970 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to replace 70 high-pressure sodium street lights with LEDs in underserved communities to enhance roadway safety and reduce energy usage.

Part of the grant will provide grants to nonprofit organizations for building retrofits ultimately saving the non-profits money and promoting the sustainability of their public infrastructure.

This project will follow steps from the Blueprint 2C: Building Electrification Campaign. Any remaining funds will be deployed for an energy assessment of Jonesboro City Hall.

The grant comes from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program.

It is a $550 million grant program funded through the bipartisan Infrastructure Law. It is designed to assist states, local governments, and Tribes in implementing strategies to reduce energy use, to reduce fossil fuel emissions, and to improve energy efficiency, according to the Department of Energy.
