Startup Junkie secures SBA award for lithium and energy innovation
Startup Junkie, the Fayetteville-based entrepreneurial support organization, announced its selection for a prestigious award from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to lead the Lithium Regional Innovation Cluster (LRIC).
The public-private initiative is set to accelerate energy innovation by strengthening the lithium value chain along the Smackover Formation, one of the world’s largest lithium deposits which also runs through south Arkansas.
The LRIC is part of the SBA’s Regional Innovation Clusters, focused on enhancing national security by building a resilient and sustainable lithium supply chain, an essential component for powering the future of energy. The LRIC is positioned at the forefront of the energy revolution and will cover the geographical areas of Southern Arkansas, Northeast Texas, Northern Louisiana, and Western Mississippi.
The mission of the LRIC is to support and drive innovation within the lithium value chain through strategic partnerships, commercialization training, access to capital, and world-class expertise. By fostering collaboration among small businesses, scalable ventures, academia, scientists, engineers, and innovators, the LRIC aims to spearhead technological advancements in the energy sector.
Founded in 2008, Startup Junkie supports small businesses and startups through its consulting services, innovation and entrepreneurship programs, and stakeholder collaboration. The firm has consistently promoted sustainable economic growth and supported underserved communities.
The Lithium Regional Innovation Cluster, under the leadership of Startup Junkie, will create a diverse ecosystem supporting rural communities while simultaneously promoting sustainable economic growth. Through no-cost consulting services and innovative programming, the LRIC will empower businesses and innovators to thrive in the emerging lithium economy.
“Our selection to lead the LRIC is a testament to our commitment to fostering innovation and supporting the growth of small businesses,” said Jeff Amerine, Founder and Managing Director of Startup Junkie. “We are dedicated to leveraging this award to cultivate an ecosystem that not only enhances energy innovation but also drives economic development and resilience across the region.”
