What is the best business advice someone has ever given you? It is the quote from Amelia Earhart, “The best way to do it, is to do it.”
How significant to you is developing a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) culture within your organization? We continue to stay committed to belonging and strategic within our organization and to all who visit our museum to feel a sense of belonging and community. It is significant enough to be one of our six guiding principles in how we operate and collaborate with all our partners as a learning organization.
What’s the top challenge you have faced as a leader, and how did you overcome it? Finding a healthy work-life balance as a leader. I was afraid of jeopardizing the success of my organization by not giving it my everything but realizing personal well-being will eventually need your attention as well. I surround myself with talented people and trust them.
Do you use artificial intelligence (AI) software in your work, and if so, how so? Yes, we use AI to record meetings and shareable notes. I use autocorrect in Word. AI is a valuable tool.
What are some aspects of leadership you are still working to improve? I want to continue to encourage collaboration. Collaborative experiences are great opportunities for growth and innovative ideas. We are lucky to have a great network in Northwest Arkansas. I want my team to use them.
What advice would you give someone wanting to be a leader in your industry? Have a passion for your mission.
How do you relax? I enjoy reading and bird watching.
How do you stay current with industry trends and changes? I am always reading and networking within my industry. I attend conferences in the museum and science sector. I am also a member of AFP, Association of Fundraising Professionals and PRSA, Public Relations Society of America.
