The Museum of Discovery announced Tuesday (Oct. 22) that longtime CEO Kelley Bass has stepped down from his post and a search for a replacement is underway. J. Michael Nauman, a board member for the last 15 years, will serve as interim CEO.

Bass has served as CEO for 12 years and led the museum through a period of growth, recovery from a major flood, and the COVID-19 crisis.

Nauman has more than 35 years of experience in commercial leadership, including roles as President of Brady Corporation and Executive Vice President of Molex Incorporated.

“Michael has been an advocate for the museum’s mission for many years, and we are confident in his ability to lead us forward,” said Board Chair Melissa Bandy. “We appreciate his willingness to step into this role and guide us through this transition.”

According to a release from the Museum of Discovery, a comprehensive search is underway to identify a candidate for the museum’s permanent CEO role.

“I am honored to support the talented team at the Museum of Discovery during this time of transition,” said Nauman. “Together, we will continue to provide engaging and educational experiences for our visitors while building a bright future for the museum.”
