Arkansas House of Representatives to select new chief of staff

At the request of Speaker-designate Brian Evans, R-Cabot, House Speaker Matthew Shepherd, R-El Dorado, has selected and appointed Gina Lockwood as the chief of staff of the Arkansas House of Representatives, subject to the approval of the House Management Committee.

Lockwood is now director of Governmental Affairs for Arkansas Tech University. She previously worked as chief operating officer for the Arkansas Department of Education. Lockwood also has a background in education working as a language arts teacher and a high school guidance counselor.

“Ms. Lockwood has demonstrated exceptional leadership and an unwavering commitment to the people of Arkansas throughout her career,” said Evans. “Her integrity and ability to inspire others makes her the perfect choice for Chief of Staff.”

“I’m humbled by this opportunity and excited to work with members of the General Assembly,” said Lockwood. “I look forward to building on the successes and helping to navigate the challenges ahead.”

Lockwood is a graduate of Henderson State University and earned a master’s degree in education at Arkansas Tech University.

The chief of staff for the Arkansas House oversees all facets of daily operations of the House and coordinates preparation for the General, Fiscal, and Special Sessions of the House of Representatives.

The House Management Committee will consider her appointment at its September meeting.
