Tripp Cashion loved math and liked to build things as a child. When he went to the University of Arkansas, he majored in engineering. After graduating in 2010, he took a job at the Walmart Home Office, working in technology.
It wasn’t long before he realized that business, specifically sales, appealed to him.
“I didn’t anticipate being in business … I learned a different path,” he said. “I liked this form of sales. It’s data and relationship-driven.”
Cashion has worked at Harvest Group for the past nine years. The company acts as a conduit between suppliers, Walmart and Sam’s Club. He is the vice president of sales for the consumable division.
He leads a 35-person sales staff. Early in his career, he was deeply involved in sales, but now his role has changed.
“My main role now is supporting
my team and our team leaders,” he said. “ … I also help to form strategies for
our suppliers and Walmart and Sam’s Club.”
His division specifically deals with over-the-counter pharmaceuticals, beauty and self-care products. He said his previous work for Pfizer gave him the experience and background to work in pharmaceuticals.
One of the unique challenges of his job is keeping in line the goals of his clients on both sides of the ledger. Sometimes, those goals don’t align, and finding a middle ground for both sides can be a daunting challenge. But it’s one he and his team accept, he added.
When he’s not working, he enjoys camping, biking, hiking and other outdoor activities with his wife Kara and his three children — Sutton, Knight and Rhodes. He said they like to fish, play golf and do things on the water, such as swimming and boating.
