MISO President Clair Moeller retires, CEO John Bear to assume role

Carmel, Ind.-based regional transmission organization Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) announced Thursday (July 18) that Clair Moeller, president and chief operating officer, will retire on Dec. 31. CEO John Bear will assume the role of president on Jan. 1.

As a grid operator, MISO’s footprint spans Manitoba, Canada, and 15 U.S. states, including part of Arkansas. Moeller’s transition begins immediately, and he will be a strategic adviser for the remainder of this year.

“Clair’s contributions to MISO and the greater electricity sector are distinguished and truly remarkable,” Bear said. “Having worked with Clair for more than 20 years, I can say with conviction he has been instrumental in building our organization. His passion, knowledge and unwavering commitment to MISO and our members have helped define the electricity system across our footprint. On behalf of all of us at MISO and our membership, we thank Clair for his invaluable contributions.”

Reflecting on his tenure with MISO, Moeller appreciated the employees and stakeholders.

“It is because of our dedicated and hardworking employees and the support of our stakeholders that we have been able to provide reliable power across 15 states and to 45 million Americans,” Moeller said. “As I reflect on the last 20-plus years, I am so proud of what MISO has accomplished, and I extend my deepest thanks to John, the board and everyone at MISO for the opportunity of a lifetime.”
