A pair of Northwest Arkansas innovators has launched a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform aimed at safeguarding the authenticity and origin of digital content.

File Baby uses artificial intelligence (AI) to verify the authenticity of digital content. It checks various types of media like documents, images, audio, and video files to ensure they are original and trustworthy. That helps users trust their digital files more and shields their work from being exploited by AI.

Karen Kilroy (founder and CEO) and Orson Weems (president) are the principals leading the new venture. Weems is the co-founder and executive director of the nonprofit Music Education Initiative. Kilroy is a technologist and software engineer who relocated from Texas to Northwest Arkansas two years ago as a “Life Works Here” recipient. That’s an incentive-based relocation campaign created by the Northwest Arkansas Council to incentivize remote workers to the region.

Kilroy said the startup addresses concerns about fake online content and potential job losses due to AI.

“File Baby’s impact goes beyond file management; it is a proponent of giving credit where credit is due in the digital realm,” she said. “As AI continues to advance and replace human jobs, File Baby becomes a vital ally for creators, ensuring their contributions are recognized, protected, and enables the creator to be compensated fairly for their content.”

File Baby attaches creators’ digital signatures to files, ensuring proper credit and compensation in the digital realm. Beyond compliance, it aims to redefine the relationship between humans and AI, empowering creators and safeguarding human creativity in the face of technological advancements.

In February, File Baby announced that hip-hop recording artist Jeremiah Pickett, known by the stage name “Baang,” was the first musical artist to claim their music on the platform.
