Patrick Tenney, president of the Northwest Arkansas division of Little Rock-based contractor Baldwin & Shell, plans to retire next month after 34 years with the company. His final day is May 3.

“We have good folks coming up in our organization that will take the company to a higher level,” Tenney said in a news release issued Wednesday (April 24). “That’s why now is the right time to retire. Baldwin & Shell has put its mark on the growing NWA region, and we will continue to help shape the landscape of this area.”

An architect by trade, Tenney joined Baldwin & Shell in 1990 as an estimator. In 2014, he was appointed to the top leadership post in Northwest Arkansas.

“Our company is all about building relationships, and no one is better at it than Patrick,” said Bobby Gosser, president and CEO of Baldwin & Shell. “He has built an unparalleled level of trust with our customers, and they know he will always do the right thing on their behalf. He leaves behind a great legacy.”

According to the news release, Tenney has grown the Northwest Arkansas division into the company’s highest revenue-generating region in his decade as president. Several notable construction projects in that time include:

  • Vol Walker Hall and Steven L. Anderson Design Center at the University of Arkansas School of Architecture;
  • Don Tyson School of Innovation at the Springdale School District;
  • TheatreSquared in Fayetteville;
  • Garland Center Bookstore and Parking Garage at the University of Arkansas.

According to the most recent list published in the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal, Baldwin & Shell had $123.1 million in revenue generated by its Northwest Arkansas operations in 2022.

Tenney is also retiring from Baldwin & Shell’s board of directors, where he was corporate treasurer.

A company spokesman said an announcement about Tenney’s replacement is expected soon.

Baldwin & Shell’s Northwest Arkansas division has approximately 30 employees.
