The Hotel Hot Springs announced Wednesday (Sept. 27) plans to reopen two iconic Arkansas restaurants, the Satellite Cafe and Coy’s Steakhouse.

Coy’s Steakhouse will be reconstructed in a 4,500-square foot space adjacent to The Hotel Hot Springs, while the Satellite Cafe will re-envision its signature style, occupying a 1,200 square-foot space inside The Hotel Hot Springs at 305 Malvern Ave. in downtown Hot Springs.

The Hotel Hot Springs team is led by general manager, Carlos Sibole, director of sales, Barrie Kiger Nagy and executive chef, Derek Nowell. Both projects will be managed by Keet O’Gary Construction, with interior design by LaHarpe’s and local independent designer Amber Manney.

“The team at The Hotel Hot Springs is deeply committed to preserving the legacy of Coy’s Steakhouse and the Satellite Cafe,” said company representative Chris Kane. “They have been working diligently to bring back the classic ambiance and flavors that made them staples in Arkansas’s culinary history while introducing modern elements for an exceptional new dining experience.”

The company added The Hotel Hot Springs to its portfolio in June 2023, making the property the only locally-owned and -operated hotel in the historic district of downtown Hot Springs.

The Satellite Cafe, which operated in the Heights neighborhood of Little Rock before closing in 2010, is set to join the hotel’s amenities by Q4 2023. It will showcase a casual dining atmosphere, offering a weekday breakfast buffet, limited lunch and dinner menu and a weekend brunch featuring items from their original menu like tart apple and cottage cheese pancakes and the huevos rancheros and lump crabmeat omelet.

Coy’s Steakhouse, originally opened by Coy and Mildred Theobalt in Hot Springs in 1945, became a local institution before burning down in 2009. The new restaurant is slated to open its doors by Q1 2024 after a 14-year closure.
