Jennifer Glasgow hired as new Chief Education Officer for Little Rock

Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott, Jr. announced Monday (April 18) that Jennifer Glasgow has been hired by the city as its new Chief Education Officer.

She replaces C.Ed.O. Dr. Jay Barth, who left the position in March to lead the Clinton Presidential Library. Dionne Jackson, Ed.D., chief equity officer, has served in an interim capacity.

“I look forward to working with Mayor Scott and his team to provide direction for the education initiatives of his administration, continuing to make sure that all children in Little Rock have not only access but opportunity through education,” said Glasgow.

Glasgow joins the city from Excel by Eight, formerly Arkansas Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, where she served as assistant director since 2016. Her work focused on professional development, including working closely with Little Rock School District faculty and staff, and on improving health and education outcomes for children from birth to age 8.

During that time, Glasgow has also served as the president of the Little Rock Public Education Foundation.

Glasgow is a graduate of UA Little Rock.

“I’m excited to welcome Jennifer to our team,” Mayor Scott said. “Her experience and ties with the Little Rock School District will allow us to continue our close work, including the continued development of our community schools model, which will be expanding this fall to Mabelvale Middle and Elementary schools. She will also continue our work on summer literacy, digital equity, and management and pursuit of further grants, such as our recent Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Program award from the U.S. Department of Justice to provide social workers for Stephens Elementary.”
