Gov. Asa Hutchinson has set a special election to fill the state Senate seat vacated by Sen. Lance Eads, R-Springdale, for early February 2022.

Eads resigned his seat last week for a private sector job.

The calendar for the special elections to fill his seat follow this schedule:

  • Special primary election – Dec. 14, 2021
  • Special run-off election – Jan. 11, 2022
  • Special general election – Feb. 8, 2022

For candidates seeking to run for the seat, the filing process will begin Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2021 at noon at the state capitol. The filing period will close Nov. 22, 2021 at noon.

Former State Sen. Jim Bob Duggar has announced he will seek the Republican nomination. He is the only official candidate to have announced so far.
