Cumulative COVID-19 cases in Arkansas top 300,000

After several days of week-over-week declines, the Arkansas Department of Health on Wednesday (Feb. 3) reported 2,246 new COVID-19 cases, well above the 1,777 reported the previous Wednesday. Active cases of 16,533 were below the 17,868 on the previous Wednesday.

The new confirmed and probable cases pushed the cumulative total to 300,430. Deaths rose by 46 to 4,985. Hospitalizations rose by 15 to total 884, well below the 1,029 on the previous Wednesday. The ADH also reported 99 available ICU beds as of 2 p.m. Wednesday, up from 93 on Tuesday.

“Today’s report shows an increase in new cases from last week, but we still show a decrease in active cases from last week. Our vaccination efforts continue to progress, with over 15,600 additional doses administered yesterday. We have been trending in the right direction, and we all need to wear a mask, watch our distance, and wash our hands to ensure that trend continues,” Gov. Asa Hutchinson said about Wednesday’s report.

The state has received 519,225 vaccines since federal distribution began Dec. 14, including 32,725 delivered within the past 24 hours. Vaccines administered in the previous 24 hours rose by 15,193 to 316,484, or 61% of vaccines received.

The federal program in which CVS and Walgreens is managing vaccinations in nursing homes and other long term care facilities has received 49,400 vaccines since Dec. 28. Vaccines administered in the past 24 hours rose by 422 to 17,589, or 35.5% of vaccines received.

The top five counties with new known cases reported Wednesday were: Pulaski (318), Garland (185), Faulkner (173), Benton (172), and Washington (154). The counties accounted for 41.3% of the 2,426 new confirmed and probable cases.

As of Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., there were 26,517,212 U.S. cases and 449,485 deaths. Globally, there were 104,210,649 cases and 2,262,335 deaths.
