New records set again for daily COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations

A record number of new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations were reported Friday (Nov. 6) by the Arkansas Department of Health (AD). Gov. Asa Hutchinson said the rise in numbers is worrisome in terms of stress on the state’s hospitals.

There were 1,870 confirmed and probable known COVID cases in the ADH report, with the cumulative total reaching 119,320. Confirmed and probable death rose by 19 to 2,056.

Friday’s report also included a record number of hospitalizations at 706, up 39 from Thursday. Ventilator use rose by 4 to 107. Gov. Hutchinson’s statement again included a plea to Arkansans to be more careful.

“Today’s numbers show we are not in a good position as we head into the colder months. I ask all Arkansans to take this virus seriously and to take necessary precautions. Our number of new cases is growing at a rate that worries me in terms of our hospital capacity,” the governor noted in a statement.

The top five counties with new known cases reported Friday were: Benton (140), Craighead (137), Washington (137), Pulaski (134), and Sebastian (91). The counties accounted for 49% of the 1,303 new community cases.

As of Friday at 2:30 p.m., there were 9,665,009 U.S. cases and 235,416 deaths. Globally, there were 49,114,225 cases and 1,239,757 deaths.
