Cong. Hill strikes Sen. Elliott on tax votes in new TV ad

U.S. Rep. French Hill, R-Little Rock, launched a new ad in his Second Congressional District re-election campaign that raps Sen. Joyce Elliott, D-Little Rock, for her votes on taxes, particularly a cell phone fee that partially funds 911 calls.

The ad, “She’ll Tax Anything,” features a suburban mom complaining that 25% of her cell phone bill includes taxes. She says Sen. Elliott voted “multiple times” to nearly triple our cell phone taxes in Arkansas.” The ad claims that Arkansas has the 6th highest tax bill in the country for cell phones, while the mom in the ad says “with the coronavirus, staying connected is even more important.”

“State Senator Elliott, is there anything you won’t tax?” the mom asks.

Rep. Hill concludes the ad by saying, “If my opponent acts this way in Arkansas, just imagine what she’ll do in Washington.”

The ad is running on broadcast, cable and streaming TV channels throughout the district, according to a Hill campaign spokesperson.

Neil Goodman, spokesperson for Sen. Elliott’s Congressional campaign said, “It’s disappointing that Congressman Hill doesn’t support funding our 911 system, especially at a time when so many Arkansans rely on emergency services. Maybe he’d rather the funding go to the lobbyists and special interests bankrolling his campaign, just like what happened when he voted for a lifetime middle class tax increase.”
